Role Overview 🚀
Our Product Engineering department is in an exciting phase of growth, and we are actively seeking a Senior Backend Engineer who specialises in Golang and is open to learn and explore integrations with rest of our Java services.
In this role, you will focus exclusively on developing new features and innovations for our OneHub Wallet product, addressing unique challenges in the employee allowances domain. You will collaborate closely with our Principal Backend Engineer to architect optimal solutions and strategies for our OneHub products.
You will be part of an Agile development team, with autonomy and responsibility to uphold code quality, security, performance, and maintainability, adhering to development principles and best practices. We have a diverse team of engineers from various backgrounds. If you're passionate about learning and growing in a dynamic environment, we'd love to hear from you.
Stack: Go, Java, Spring Boot, REST API's, MongoDB, Docker, Kubernetes, GCP.

Responsibilities 🤘
Core Engineering
Design, build, and maintain high-quality REST APIs and backend services in Go & Java, supporting scalable and reliable product integrations.
Maintain a handful of GO services spread across the emerging product suite with a keen eye for migration
Implement and evolve event-driven workflows using Google Cloud Pub/Sub to synchronise profile data across multiple products.
Improve the performance, reliability, and observability of the service (logging, metrics, tracing, alerting).
Architecture & Technical Direction
Work closely with the Principal Engineer to influence the future architecture of profile management, data contracts, and event schemas.
Contribute to the design and evolution of domain events, ensuring schema consistency, forward compatibility, and good modelling practices.
Drive engineering standards across the squad, including testing strategy, CI/CD improvements, and code quality practices.
Works to enable groups of others to improve coding standards and awareness of best practices around non-functional requirements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Influences and builds consensus among teams, fostering effective collaboration between product, engineering, and design to drive Wallet projects to completion.
Communicates complex technical issues clearly to various audiences using strong verbal and written communication skills.
Reviews code of any size or scope produced by their team and provides constructive and actionable technical feedback.
Work with frontend and mobile engineers to define clear, well-documented APIs (OpenAPI/Swagger).
Leadership & Mentorship
Provide technical mentorship to engineers in the team, supporting growth, knowledge sharing, and sound engineering practice.
Participate in architectural discussions, design reviews, and incident retrospectives, bringing strong backend expertise.
Actions make the team better, fostering a positive team culture and learning environment.
What are we looking for? 🔎
Hands-on Golang experience
Openness to learn & explore Java integrations
Experience working on cloud architecture and software built on REST API’s with the ability to implement high quality code and deliver on time
Good understanding of event-driven architecture (EDA) and programming principles
Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB Atlas
Senior level engineer, both in technical output (leading more complex features/services, technical decision making, owning critical services/projects) and impact on the wider team (mentoring, knowledge sharing, raising standards)
Passion for engineering and continuous learning
A pragmatic approach, someone with the ability to understand the big picture (business, product and tech), factor in all considerations and choose the best way forward
A mindset of taking ownership, identifying and solving problems, able to navigate complex challenges.

Monitoring and logging tools like Prometheus and Grafana
Knowledge of containerisation and Kubernetes
